In Germany, we don't have school uniforms. We even are allowed to wear make-up, Jeans and all that. I think that's good on one hand, but sometimes there are people who laugh at others because of their clothes, so this could be an advantage of school uniforms.
Do you have uniforms? What do you think of them?

We have uniforms here and I agree with them of course the children still add their own touches and they are just as superficial, when it comes to what's in or otherwise...

......
of course buying a new uniform is an expensive business and puts extra finacial strain on many families who are already struggling this is exacerated by the fact that their children will be teased for not wearing the "right" clothes so I think something should be done to tackle this superficial nonsense, which has been completely out of control in Scottish schools for far too long...and is a product of the americanisation of my country

Well I have the impressions that German schools are the only ones who do not have uniforms. I agree that they must be expensive and it would be hard for families who struggle to buy them, but it really would stop kids from laughing at others who do not wear expensive modern clothes with a name of a well-known company on them.

I don't think it would solve the problem only create another, that of keeping up with the latest trend...

If the less well off teenagers can't afford the clothes they will still be ridiculed and bullied...The schools really have to deal with this superficial insecurity, that inevitably leads to bullying, instead of sweeping it under the carpet...

the thing is, people will always find something to criticize about others, no matter what. you just have to learn how to roll with the punches, and realize that youre better then them in the first place. as for having uniforms, no, my school doesnt have them. im not sure about the rest of texas though.

I go to a Catholic school and we wear uniforms. I used to go to a public school where we could wear whatever we wanted within reason, and personally, I like the uniforms better. You don't have to search through your drawers trying to find something to wear when all you need is a skirt and blouse, and it saves a lot of money on school shopping. Plus, uniforms teach people to express themselves in some other way than the clothes they wear and to look beyond things like that.

Yeah, I totally agree, Krisme. That is exactly my opinion.

Well, it's better than being totally free. It allows you to have a choice but it still stops kids from comparing their clothes. I think that's a pretty good comprimise.

Yes, we do where uniforms. Notice the word, uniform? It means looking a like. Uniformity and conformity only encourages people to cower down and submit. I hate it and I wish I didn’t have to follow it. I am an individualist, and I think we should be able to express ourselves however we like. In the world, there isn’t uniforms, so it’s quite an impractical approach.

My school doesn't have uniforms, but then again, I'm in college, so there you go. I did have to wear them in middle school, though, and they were strictly enforced at the time, but when one of my sisters went there, the restrictions had laxed quite a bit. I guess they were ok. Everyone wore the same clothes, and school shopping wasn't a challenge. Now, my other sister is in elementary school, and all the elementary schools there have to wear uniforms now. How sad! Yes, I do live in Texas as well.
